Circulatory System Flashcards
What are the 3 main components of the circulatory system
Heart, blood vessels, blood.
What circulation carries blood to and from the lungs?
Pulmonary circulation
What circulation carries blood to and from the rest of the bodies organs
Systemic circulation
What artery carries deoxygenated blood?
The pulmonary artery
What is the only vein to carry oxygenated blood
The pulmonary vein
What carries blood away from the heart
Artery’s
What carries blood through organs and tissue
Capillaries
What carries blood towards the heart
Veins
How does blood pressure differ between arteries, capillaries and veins
Arteries alpha e high blood pressure, capillaries have low blood pressure and veins have v. Low blood pressure
What blood vessel have valves to stop blood flowing back?
Veins
How do different blood vessels differ in terms of wall thickness
Arteries have thick walls while capillaries and veins have much thinner ones
What does the heart do?
Pumps the blood around the body
What keeps the blood flowing in one direction through the heart
One way valves open and then close tight
Why are the walls of the ventricles thicker than the atria
They have to pump blood to the organs and the blood pressure is higher, so the atria does not need as much energy or blood
What happens to your heart when u get excited or exercise
It gets faster because you are using more energy and blood needs to get to the organs and muscles quicker
