Circulatory And Respiratory Systems Flashcards
What are the functions of the circulatory system?
- Transports blood and oxygen from the lungs to various tissues in the body
- pumps blood around the body
- remove carbon dioxide
- immunity
- thermoregulation
- cellular repair and regrowth
What are the different types of blood vessels?
- arteries
- capillaries
- veins
What do the arteries do?
They transport blood away from the heart?
What do veins do?
They return blood from the body to the heart
What do capillaries do?
They transport oxygen, water, nutrients and occasionally carbon dioxide
What do the valves of the heart do?
They are responsible for controlling the blood flow in the heart
What is hypothermia?
This is where the homeostatic levels have dropped below average.
What is vasodilation?
This is the enlargement of blood vessels which decreases blood pressure
What is heart rate? HR
This is the speed of the heartbeat measured by the number of contractions of the heart per minute.
What is stroke volume? SV
Is mount of blood pumped around the body per one beat of the heart. average =70ml
What is cardiac output? Q
This is the amount of blood pumped by the heart per minute. this is found through = beats per minute x stroke volume
What is blood pressure? BP
This is a measure of the pressure of the blood in the circulatory system?
What is the role of the respiratory system?
Inhaling oxygen.
What is tidal volume? TV
This is a normal breathe in during rest
What is respiratory rate? RR
The amount of breaths taken in a minute?
