What is the heart and what does it do
It’s an organ and pumps blood around the body
Where are substances transported from
They are transported from where they enter the body to the cells
What are the hearts 4 main chambers
Right atria. Left atria. Right ventricle. Left ventricle
What is located in the right atrium ?
A group of cells that act as a peacemaker
What are stents used for
To keep coronary arteries open
What can heart valves be replaced with ?
Mechanical valves
What are artificial hearts used for ?
To keep patients alive while they wait for a transplant
What part of the heart does blood enter
The atria
What does the atria do
Contracts and forces the blood into the ventricles
Where does the blood go to after the heart
To the organs through the arteries then returns through the veins
What sort of walls of arteries have
Thick
What sort of walls do veins have
Thin walls
In the organs what does the blood flow through
The capillaries
What is the fluid called that’s in blood
Plasma
What does blood plasma carry
Carbon dioxide to the lung. Urea from the liver to the kidneys
