Circular motion Flashcards
1
Q
What is a centripetal force?
A
it is the force that acts orthogonally to the velocity vector and keeps the object in circular motion as it pulls it to the centre. It is tension in a rope system and friction in a road car system.
2
Q
What is the angular velocity?
A
It is the angle an object moves through per second and so is radians per second.
3
Q
Why is an object undergoing circular motion always accelerating
A
It is always experiencing a resultant force from the centripetal force and so it’s velocity is always changing thus it is always accelerating yet never changing speed as |v| is a constant
