Circular motion Flashcards
Why is an object moving in a circle accelerating even if its speed is constant?
acceleration is the rate of change of velocity
velocity is a vector quantity
so if the direction is constantaly changing the ball must be accelerating
What is centripetal force (definition)?
Centripetal force is the net force which acts perpendicular to the direction of the velocity, towards the centre of the circle.
What is inertia?
Inertia is a resistance to a change in motion
What is the symbol for angular velocity?
w
What is centripetal acceleration measured in? linear or not?
ms-2 linear acceleration
What is accelerations realationship to the radius?
acceleration is inversly proportional to the radius
Define angular speed/velocity
The rate of change in angular displacement with respect to time.
Define centripetal acceleration
The acceleration of an object towards the center of a circle when an object is in motion rotating around a circle. At a constant speed
What does centripetal force do?
Keeps a body in uniform circular motion
Is centripetal force a scalar or vector?
Vector
What is angular velocity measured in?
Rad s-1
