Circuits Flashcards
What are the two types of circuits
Series and Parallel
What is the current like in a series circuit
It is the same in all parts
What increases when components such as lamps are added to a series circuit
The resistance
The components on a series circuit form…
A loop
What happens if one of the components in a series circuit breaks/disconnects
The whole thing stops working because the current is broken
What does an ammeter do
Measures the current (A)
What is the Potential Difference
The measure of energy transferred between two points in a circuit
What is a parallel circuit
A circuit where components are on separate branches so that the current can take different roots
What is the current like in parallel circuits
It is different in different areas
What is the potential difference like in a parallel circuit
It is the same across all branches
What happens if you remove/add a build to a parallel circuit
Nothing, the other builds will stay at the same brightness as they are on separate branches/current paths
Why is the current different in parallel circuits
Because it gets split off between branches
What is current measured in
Amps
What does adding more components do to the resistance in a parallel circuit
It causes it to decrease
If a cell gives off a current of 6A and there are 2 bulbs in a parallel circuit, what is the current going to each bulb?
3A
