Circuits Flashcards
What is the definition of resistance?
A measure of hindrance to the flow of charge
Demonstrate understanding that electric current is the rate of flow of charge
The number of coloumbs of charge passing through a particular point in wire every second
What is the use of an Ammeter?
An instrument used to measure electric current
What is the use of a voltmeter?
An instrument used to measure voltages of direct current or alternating current
Where does conventional current flow from?
Positive to negative side of battery
Where does electron flow from?
Negative to positive side of battery
In a series circuit, the current is…
The same everywhere
The supply voltage in a series circuit is…
Equal to the sum of the voltages across the components
In a parallel circuit, the supply voltage…
Across each component is the same
In a parallel circuit, the current from the source is…
Equal to the sum of the currents in the separate branches
Ohm’s law
States that electric current is proportional to voltage and inversely proportional to resistance
What is ohmic?
A component or material that follows Ohm’s law, where the current is directly proportional to the applied voltage. The resistance remains constant.
(Linear graph)
What is non-ohmic?
A component or material that does not follow Ohm’s law. The resistance may vary with the applied voltage or current and is not constant.
(Non-linear graph)
