Circuits Flashcards
Series circuit
a circuit that has one loop and the current is the same all over. The potential difference is shared between the voltmeters
Parallel circuit
a circuit where components are set up in separate loops. Current is shared between loops and the potential difference is the same across each lamp
4 ways to increase resistance
Making the wire thinner
Changing to a material that is a poor conductor
Making the wire longer
Increase the temperature of the wire
Ammeter
a component used to measure current in amps. Placed in series
Voltmeter
a component used to measure potential difference in volts. Placed in parallel
Ohms Law
the law states the relationship between current and resistance. If current increases, resistance will increase. If resistance increases, current will decrease
Filament lamp graph
the p.d and current rise at the same rate stopping when the resistance is too high. non-ohmic graph.
Filament bulb graph
The resistance stops current and p.d from rising at the same rate
Fixed resistor graph
current and p.d rising at the same rate. Goes directly through the center point
Diode
a component that allows current to only flow in one direction
LDR (light-dependent resistor)
As the light intensity increases, the resistance decreases (day-time)
As the light intensity decreases, the resistance increases (night time)
