Circuit Topology and Diagrams Flashcards
What is a node?
The region o connection between two or more circuit elements
What is a branch?
Any unique path through a circuit
What is a loop?
Any closed pathway in a circuit
What does it mean to be in series?
When elements are next to eachother on the same branch
What does it mean to be in parallel?
When elements sit between the same two nodes
What are the two basic types of sources?
A voltage source and a current source
What is a basic example of a load?
A resistor
What is a short circuit?
A zero resistance conection which allows a bi-pass of higher resistance elements
What is an open circuit?
A circuit with no path for current to flow
How would you measure voltage through a resistor?
With a voltmeter placed in parallel with the resistor
How would you measure current through a resistor?
With an ammeter placed in series with the resistor
What is ground?
A reference node voltage typically designated as zero
When is the voltage across two elements equal?
When they are in parallel
When is the current through two elements equal?
When they are in series
What is a mesh?
A loop without any other loops inside of it
