Circuit Theory Flashcards
What’s a source?
Something that turns a physical property into a signal
What is a load?
Something that converts electrical power into another source. (i.e motor)
What’s conventional current?
Charge flows from positive to negative terminal (this is worng tho, but its just historic)
How to determine that power is being supplied? (P is -ve)
When current leaves the high voltage side of the element
How to tell if power is absorbed?
When current enters the high voltage side of the element
What is an ideal voltage source?
Assumed constant p.d regardless of current. (battery or power suply)
What is a ideal current source?
Constant current regardless of voltage.
Resistor power dissapation formulas?
P= IV
P= I^2R
P=V^2/R
How does power interact with resistors? (wrong english but you get what i mean)
Resistor always absorbs power
When a resistor is in a basic circuit what direction does the high voltage go?
Towards the resistor
What is a branch?
A part of a circuit with only one element
What is a node?
A connection point of branches
What’s a loop?
Any closed path around the circuit
What are meshes (type of loop)
Loops that dont cut any branches
What’s kirchoff’s current law?
At any node the algebraic sum of the current is = 0
ΣI = 0
