Circuit Symbols Flashcards
What is this circuit symbol?
Diode - Current goes in one direction
What is this circuit symbol?
Resistor - A resistor is an electrical component that limits or regulates the flow of electrical current in an electronic circuit.
What is this circuit symbol?
Thermistor - Thermistors are used as temperature sensors, for example, in fire alarms. Their resistance decreases as the temperature increases. At low temperatures, the resistance of a thermistor is high, and little current can flow through them.
What is this circuit symbol?
Variable Resistor - Variable resistors do not have a fixed value – they can change their value as the current changes.
What is this circuit symbol?
LDR (light dependent resistor) - They are used to detect light levels, e.g. in automatic security lights. Their resistance decreases as the light intensity increases. In the dark and at low light levels, the resistance of an LDR is high, and little current can flow through it.
What is this circuit symbol?
Fuse - The fuse breaks the circuit if a fault in an appliance causes too much current to flow. This protects the wiring and the appliance if something goes wrong. The fuse contains a piece of wire that melts easily.
What is this circuit symbol?
Battery - In a circuit, the battery is the main source of energy that provides a voltage which allows the current to flow through. This energy created from the battery is used by a bulb which lights up.
What is this circuit symbol?
Cell - An electrical cell is an “electrical power supply”. It converts stored chemical energy into electrical potential energy, allowing positive charges to flow from the positive terminal to the negative one through an external circuit. This is called a current.
What is this circuit symbol?
An LED
