Circuit Parts Flashcards
What is a load?
A load on a circuit is a buzzer, light bulb or motor. These pieces use the energy travelling along the wires to work it.
What is a conductor?
A substance, body or device that readily conducts heat, sound and/or electricity.
What is an insulator?
An insulator is a material of such low conductivity that the flow of current through it is negligible.
How does electricity travel through the circuit?
Electrons flow through the wire from the positive end of the battery, to the negative end.
Why do we use copper inside wires instead of silver?
Copper is much cheaper and works equally well.
How do insulating sheaths protect us from electrocution?
The sheath is made of thick plastic, which doesn’t allow for electricity to pass through, protecting us.
Will a circuit operate if the switch is open?
No, because the circuit is incomplete, so the electricity can’t flow through.
What is an electron?
An electron is a subatomic particle. It is believed to be an elementary particle because it cannot be broken down into anything smaller.
What is a parallel circuit?
A parallel circuit is a way of connecting components on separate branches, so the current can take different routes around the circuit.
