What is the basic definition or use of transportation in animals?
It is used to be healthy and to carry vital substances like ( carbon dioxide, waste, oxygen, nutrients, hormones) around or within the body.
What is the diff between simple animals and larger multicellular animals in the way transportation takes place?
Simple animals- small and thin so substances can simply be diffused from cell to cell.
Larger multicellular animals- Body too thick for diffusion so cells in center would be starved. This is why a circulatory system is needed for transport.
What are the 3 main parts in a cicrulatory system?
The fluid (blood)
The tubes ( blood vessels)
Pump (heart)

Blood (fluid): To transport products like oxygen,waste, etc.
Blood vessels: in which blood flows around body
Heart: Pump blood around the body
Vlaves: To ensure blood flow in one direction/ to prevent backflow of blood

Occurs only in invertebrae groups.

What is the pressure and speed in which blood moves in a open circ system?
Blood in an open system is pumped at a very slow pressure and moves very slowly (this limits it to small organisms).
What makes the blood move in an open circu system?
Movement of muscles make blood moves.
Explain how blood flows through the open circu system?
Blood from heart is pumped at low pressure and moves to through blood vessels to the main body cavity. The blood then bathes the internal organs which allows the exchange of gases, wastes and nutrients. Then it moves slowly through tissues and it returnts to heart by a system of connecting vessels.
Is the open circ system effective or ineffcient?
Ineffcient- only for small animals.
What group is a closed circ system found in?
All vertebrae animals.
Ex, worms and sea urchins.

Moves at high pressure and very fast.
How does the closed circ
work?
- Blood remains enclosed and it circulates in continous network of blood vessels.
-Heart pumps blood through blood vessels until it reaches heart.
-Substances move through the blood and diffuse where needed.
(oxygen goes to tissues)
(carbon dioxide leaves tissues)
Is the closed circ system effective?
Yes, because it can be controlled and allows for rapid transport under high pressure.

Means that blood passes the heart TWICE.
