cia Flashcards
when do you need your data to be confidential?
when it’s stored, when its being transmitted, and when it is being processed
packet sniffing
when your data is being transmitted over a network and somebody captures your traffic
confidentiality is violated
packet sniffing ,somebody successfully break the encryption, or user inadvertently exposes data
encryption
makes your data secure so that it is not visible to unauthorized users.
what is availability
when data is available as when required
violation of availability
when someone damage/slower down your communication infrastructure or web server so that you’re no longer able to service your clients
how is availability enforced
through redundancy
why is the internet insecure?
because it’s a public network, people can eavesdrop on your data
how does encryption work
you give the data a secret key. the encryption algorithm takes the data and use the key to encode date into a format which is no understandable by others
what is hashing
hashing is a summary or a message digest of your main file. then your encrypt it using a secret key.
integrity
your data is accurate, complete and unmodified
