How do churches help Catholics worship?
Provide a space to worship as a community during mass
Provide a peaceful place for individual worship (small side chapels)
What do the stations of the cross remind us of?
It reminds us of the fact that Jesus’ suffered so that we can be redeemed.
What do statues in the church encourage christians to do?
It encourages them to follow the examples of the statues - guiding them towards redemption
What were Catholic churches like before 1965?
Built facing Jerusalem (where Jesus died and rose again)
Built in the shape of a cross (Reminder of Jesus’ death)
Altar was against the (East) wall
Mass was said in Latin

The altar is now at the centre of the church so all can see and join in with the mass
There are seats around the altar
