Q

Why is his humanity Necessary?

A

1) since man has sinned, man must pay the penalty
2) the penalty of sin involves the suffering of both body and soul.
3) only one who lived in full obedience of the law can satisfy God. Christ has obeyed in our place.
4) his humanity was sinless and had to be so.
5) he had to be free from actual sin and original sin (virgin birth and consequent holiness meets this need)
6) he lives to make intercession for us. because he was a man, he is able to understand and sympathize.
7) a mediator who brings men to God mustt have a foot in both camps.

Q

why was his deity necessary?

A

1) only God and survive the wrath of God
2) Only God could provide an infinite payment for infinite wrath during the finite time on the Cross.
3) Only God can provide atonement for all, if Jesus was merely a perfect man, he could have died in the place of just one sinner.
4) only God can satisfy God. the creature cannot merit salvation before the creator.
5) only God can be a mediator to God.

Q

What does Dale Moody believe about the virgin birth of Christ?

A

He contends that this should be the emphasis of Protestants to differentiate the biblical doctrine of the virgin birth from the Catholic dogma of the immaculate conception and the perpetual virginity of Mary. The virgin conception of Christ is a classic example of how it is impossible to separate the historical events of the Bible from their theological meaning. For this reason, the virgin birth as been used as a litmus test during the controversy over the inerrancy of Scripture.
