What is omnipotent?
The idea that god is all seeing (has unlimited power and is almighty)
What is Omnibenevolent?
The idea that God is all loving
What is Omniscient?
The idea that God is all knowing.
Just meaning?
God brings about what is right and fair and is the ultimate source of justice.
What is Genesis?
The first book in the bible which contains the creation stories.
What is a creationist?
A Christian who believes the world was created in 7 days exactly as it says in Genesis .
What is a myth/symbolic liberal?
Christians who interpret the creation stories as a story with a deeper meaning/message.
What is a Ex-Nihilo?
A Christian belief that God created the world ‘out of nothing’.
What is The Fall?
The account whereby Adam and Eve disobey God and bring evil into the world.
What is prelapsarian?
a theological term for the innocence of humans before the fall
What is Original Sin?
An Augustine doctrine that says that everyone is born with a built-in urge to sin/disobey God - particularly important to Catholics.
What is Sin?
any action or thought that separates humans from God - behaviour that goes against God’s laws.
What is incarnation?
The idea that Jesus is God in flesh.
What is atonement?
making amends for loss or damage. making up for something wrong that someone has done.
What is suffering?
A state of pain or loss.
What is a sacrifice?
Something that is lost in order to get something in return - to give up something for someone else.
What is forgiveness?
to pardon someone or let them off after they have done something to hurt or upset you.
What is reconciliation?
restoring a friendship or relationship - reaching an understanding after a separation or argument.
What is the afterlife?
what Christians believe follows life on earth.
What is the day of judgement?
a time when the world will end every soul will be judged by God and rewarded or punished
What is Beatific vision?
The immediate site and vision of God in heaven.
What is Purgatory?
The intermediate state where souls are cleansed in order to enter heaven.
What is salvation?
forgiveness of sin?
What is Grace?
undeserved forgiveness from God.
What is an exclusivist?
someone who believes Christianity is the only true religion/only Christian people can get into heaven
What is an inclusivist?
Someone who believes that Christianity is the only true religion but other religions can get into heaven if they act as good people.
What is a pluralist?
Someone who believes that all religions contain aspects of the truth - universal salvation(hell doesn’t exist - everyone will go to heaven)
