Liturgical Worship
A form of worship that follows a set pattern. Anglicans use “service book”, Catholics use “missal”.
Rituals established as a part of worship.
Non-Liturgical Worship (Informal)
Services with no set structure, doesn’t use any reading.
Evangelical Christians use this form of worship. Spontaneous action and prayer.
Individual Worship
Many Christians believe individual worship is important as it creates a personal relationship with God.
May include praying in service, or praying at home.
Nature and Importance of Prayer
Some of the most important prayer types: •Adoration •Confessional •Contemplation (meditation) •Penitential (saying sorry) •Praise •Thanksgiving •Supplication (asking for something)
How do Quakers Worship?
Quakers value the idea that we are in the presence of God, and can include: meditation, contemplation, personal reflection and simply being in the presence of God.
How do Evangelical Christians Worship?
Worship is very informal. Feel they are moved by the Holy Spirit during worship. May involve falling into trances or speaking unknown languages.

What sacraments do most Protestants only recognise?
Baptisms and Eucharist
What happens at a Baptism?
In C of E and Catholic Church, children and infants are baptised.
Baptists don’t believe in infant baptism, should be able to declare their own faith. Should be an adult in order to state their faith. Jesus was baptised as an adult.
Why do Christians Believe Baptism is important?
- It is a rite of entry, allowing people to become members of church.
- Original Sin is removed through Baptism.
- Follows example of Jesus
- Gives individuals opportunity to publicly declare their faith.
