a type pf non- liturgical worship that is sometimes spontaneous or charismatic in nature
what is private worship?
when a believer praises or honours God on his or her own
what are 5 characteristics of non-liturgical worship?
- Faith is expressed in a variety of ways e.g holy communion
- Christians can
share personal interpretations - people can take an active part in church e.g praying aloud or speaking without formal training
- the service may have an emotional impact
- the style of worship follows early Christians

- people receive forgiveness through the action of the priest
- people receive the living presence of Jesus in holy communion

- there is a worldwide set order of service that is familiar to all, even visitors

what is a set prayer?
prayers that have been written down and said more than once by more than one person

what is an informal prayer?
a prayer that has been made up by an individual using their own words

an English protestant who does not conform to the doctrines or practices of the establishes church of England
What happened during Holy week?
- Palm Sunday
- Monday- Jesus gets angry at people for trading in the temple
- Wednesday - Judas agrees to betray Jesus
- Maundy Thursday
- Good Friday
- Easter Sunday
What happened on Palm Sunday?
Jesus enters Jerusalem, riding on a donkey, crowds greet him and lay palm leaves on the floor in front of him
What happened on Maundy Thursday?
Jesus had his last supper with his disciples and tells them he will be betrayed. He shares the bread and wine
What happened on Good Friday?
Jesus is put on trial and sentenced to death. He is whipped, given a crown of thorns and made to carry his cross on which he was crucified on
What happened on Easter Sunday?
When visiting the tomb ti prepare his body for burial
How is Palm Sunday celebrated?
Palm crosses are given and church services are held. Old palm crosses are burnt (symbolically as a reminder that we are dust and to dust we shall return
How is Maundy Thursday celebrated?
Christians go to church and the Holy Communion happens
How is Good Friday celebrated?
- Most churches remove colour and celebratory items
- the altar and lecturn are removed
- the candles are left unlit
How is Easter Sunday celebrated?
An Easter vigil is held and the service of light is held

- allows child to be welcomed in the church

the person gives a testimony and goes into the pool

What is a pilgrimage?
a journey by a believer to a holy site for religious reasons: an act of worship and devotion

In 1858 a girl named Bernadette had visions of Mary in a grotto (cave) near the river. They prayed the rosary together. Mary told Bernadette to dog for a spring of water, which was discovered to have healing powers
