AGAPE LOVE -
- agape love - unconditional love that is without boundaries
- recognises humans are fallible and have the capability to boast envy etc. but love can overcome all human fallibilities
- it is challenging and uncomfortable but it is what is needed to bring change and peace
TEMPERANCE -
- controlling one’s urges
- calls on adherents to balance their urges so that they can live righteously and to overcome temptation, which he recognises is challenging
Explain how he was a model of the transformative encounters with Christ (4)
- prior to his transformation he was a persecutor of Christians, an ardent Pharisee and overly aggressive enforcer of the law
- repeatedly viewed and referenced himself as a sinner but also continuously sought mercy and forgiveness
- transformed into a model of faith, spreading the message of faith and peace
- he reminds adherents of the redemptive capacity of God and transformational nature of Christ
Explain commitment to the mission (4)
- in evangelising (converting and teaching the Gospel) he established longstanding beliefs, ethical teachings and rituals across Europe and Asia
- established many new Christian communities such as in Antioch, Galatia, Rome and Philippi
- contributed to 25% of the NT clarifying Christianity where hostility had developed
- wrote letters to help establish Christianity in communities
