A

  1. Its shows God’s benevolence. Christians celebrate this on Christmas day.
  2. In human form, Jesus could understand humanity and its problems and identify with their suffering

A

Last Supper - Jesus knew that one of his disciples would betray him. This shows Jesus’ omnipotence. It also highlights that Jesus’ teachings had become true.

A
  1. His death showed that he was actually human - meaning that Jesus is God incarnate.
  2. Jesus’ death was a sacrifice - it brought the forgiveness of humanity’s sins
  3. Jesus’ resurrection and ascension showed that he really was God and cluld overcome death, and death is no longer the end.
  4. Christians believe that if they believe in Jesus, they will recieve eternal life w/ God.

What is salvation?

A

The act of delivering from sin and going to heaven. Those who die with unforgiven sins will go to Hell.

A

Roman Catholics believe that everyone inherits original sin from when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, so without salvation through Jesus’ death on the cross, all humans would go to Hell.

Catholics also think salvation takes place over a longer period of time.

What are the divergent solutions to the problem of evil?

A
  1. The Devil - The source of evil in the world is the Devil. Lucifer was an archangel who refused to bow down to God, so God threw him out of heaven (Revelation 12:9)
  2. Human free will causes evil and suffering. Adam and Eve used free will to disobey God by eating of the tree (Genesis 3:23). When this happened, evil and suffering were brought into the world.
  3. Some Christians try to overcome evil by becoming doctors etc so they can reduce the amount of suffering in the world.
