Q

The book of Job - God’s wisdom

A
  • Job who was a good and prosperous man, appeared to be rewarded for his faith towards god.
  • It was suggested this show of faith was an act to receive the rewards.
  • Job was punished as a test, losing his family and livestock, this was to see if he would remain faithful.
  • Job questions God as he does not understand why he is being punished.
  • God speaks to Job, telling him that since humans do not possess the wisdom of God he cannot comprehend his reasoning. This shows God’s omniscience.

Q

Original sin in Protestantism

A

The notion of original sin is that humans inherit “Adamic” guilt and are in a state of sin from the moment of conception. This inherently sinful nature results in complete alienation from God and the total incapability of humans to achieve reconsiliation wih God based on their own abilities.

Q

Original sin in Catholicism

A

By yielding to the tempter, Adam and Eve committed a personal sin, but this sin affected human nature. Personal responsibility and guilt was Adam’s, who, because of the sin, was unable to pass on to his descendants a “holy” human nature, in this way implicating them in his sin.
