Omnibenevolent
The state of being all-loving and infinitely good – a
characteristic often attributed to God
Example – “For God so loved the world He gave His
only son”
Omnipotent
The all-powerful, almighty and unlimited nature of
God
Example – “Let there be light”
Trinity
The three persons of God: God the Father, the Son
and the Holy Spirit
Example – “I and the Father are one”
Incarnation
God becoming human in the form of Jesus
Example – “The Word became flesh”
Atonement
The belief that Jesus’ death on the cross healed
the rift between humans and God
Example – Now all people can get to God in
Heaven “dying you destroyed our death…”
Resurrection
The belief that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter
Sunday, conquering death
Example – “Rejoice, He has risen!”
Sacraments
An outward sign of an invisible and inward blessing
by God
Example - Baptism, Eucharist
Evangelism
Preaching of the gospel to others with the
intention of converting them to the Christian faith
Example – Jesus said ‘Go and make disciples of all
nations”
Glossolalia
Speaking or worshipping in tongues, through the
power of the Holy Spirit.
Penitent
To confess and repent for sin, resulting in forgiveness.
Metaphorical
Something that is used to symbolise something else.
Paschal
Something that is related to the events of Easter or
Passover (in the Jewish tradition).
Endeavoured
To try hard to do or to achieve something.
Represent
The action of speaking or acting on behalf of someone
else or the state of having someone do this for you.
Disciple
A follower or pupil of a teacher, leader or philosopher.
Denominations
A recognised autonomous branch of the Christian church.
Omniscient
The characteristic of being all knowing.
Indivisible
Something that is unable to be divided or
separated.
Imago Dei
A Latin term which means ‘in the image of God’
Hypostatic union
The one person of Jesus who is fully human and fully
God.
Scapegoat
Someone who is made to bear the blame of others.
Momentous
Of great importance or significance, especially in having
a bearing on future events.
Gentiles
Non-Jewish people.
Soma pneumatikon
A spiritual body.
