What’s the Nicene Creed?
- The whole universe is God’s creation

life-giving presence of God that helps Christians to live faithful lives and continue the work that Jesus began

when a person dies, they either go to heaven depending on whether they have practiced what Jesus taught OR hell for sinful experiences

What is “liturgy of the word”?
a part of the service that highlights readings and preachings
What is communion?
the congregation is invited to share a ritual meal, as Jesus did with the apostles at the Last Supper. Bread and wine is symbolized as the body and blood of Christ.
What’s a rosary?
a small chain or string that holds a cross and beads
worshippers begin each decade (of beads) by uttering the Lord’s prayer which is followed by other prayers
What’s fasting?
no food, or certain kinds of food to symbolize the suffering of Jesus offering saved money/food to the poor
What does the cross symbolize?
human salvation
What does the Fish symbolize?
symbolizes the first words of Jesus to his disciples: “ Follow me and I will make you fishers or men “

- Birth of Jesus (25th December - Jan 7th for Eastern Orthodox)
- Christmas songs are sung to depict the birth of Jesus
- Gifts are given to symbolize how men brought gifts when they came to see Jesus
What is Epiphany?
- Celebrates the baptism of Jesus
- Celebrated on Jan 6th
- Gift giving happens from Dec 25-Jan 6 (12 days of Christmas)
What is Lent?
- lasts for 40 days
- the 40 days represent the time Jesus spent on his meditative journey in the desert before he began his ministry
- time of fasting, praying, spiritual assessment
What’s Ash Wednesday?
The day that begins the lent season
What’s Easter?
symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus
(a vigil service takes place where a flame representing the light of the world is passed among worshippers)
What’s the Holy Thursday?
represents the Last Supper
What is Good Friday?
commemorates the trial, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus
What’s baptism?
ritual that cleanses the soul
What’s the Holy Communion?
the last supper table was replaced by the alter and the last supper was replaced by a piece of bread and wine

when worshippers discuss their sins and struggles with their priest/minister

prepares the young adult member of the Church

- reject the authority of the pope
- churches have distinctive cross-shaped floor plans

- Only men can be priests

- believe in the role of the pope (leader of the church)
- priests must be males who aren’t married and are refrained from sexual relations

- rituals of worship are important but studying the Bible is MORE important
