what is liturgical worship?
a church service which follows a set structure
what is non-liturgical worship?
a church service that does not follow a set structure or text -> spontaneous and charismatic in nature
describe informal vs private prayer
informal prayer is a prayer that is personal and less structured - in audittoriums (in america such as Evangelical Christians and Quakers) but private prayer is speaking to God in your own words - grace before a meal
what is the importance to worship?
- worship both publicly and privately
- important because it creates a personal relationship between God and the believer
- helps bring a community together
what is worship?
any act that shows devotion or love for God
what is a sacrament?
a ceremony through which Christian’s receive God’s love and grace
how many sacraments do RC and OC have?

how many sacraments do Protestants have?
2 - baptism and eucharist
why do certain denominations reject sacraments?
not practiced in the bible and only seen as symbols
what are the 7 sacraments?
Baptism - marks official entry to church
Confirmation - Christian renews the vows made on their behalf at baptism (strengthen ties)
Reconciliation - confession of sin to priest
Anointing the sick - priest anoints seriously unwell with oil of sick
Matrimony - jesus performed first miracle at a wedding
Holy order - men ordained as priests
Eucharist - receiving blood and body of Jesus christ
why is baptism important?
- jesus was baptised
- no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the spirit
- enters entry to church
- some believe baptising cleanses people from original sin
what are different types of baptism?
- babies baptised -> anglican, catholic, methodist
- cross on the forehead and holy water poured three times over the forehead
- OC do full immersion
- baptists and pentecostals - believe you shouldnt be baptised until old enough to accept christianity for yourself
explain two contrasting beliefs about the eucharist
- RC believe in transubstantiation where the bread and wine once blessed become the flesh and blood of Christ and every Mass is a re-enactment of the sacrifice
- Anglicans believe in re-enactement and in the real presence of Christ in the bread and wine so Christ is there spiritually
- Baptists view the bread and wine as symbols but believe God is present though the acts of Christians coming together to share communion
why is prayer important?
- raising of one’s mind and heart to God
- comfort because God is listening to them
what are the different types of prayer?
Adoration - praising God
Confession - sin and apologising
Thanksgiving - thanking God
Supplication - asking for something
Intercession - praying for someone
