significance of christmas? what is it celebrating?
christmas is significant as it celebrates the reincarnation of jesus (god coming to earth in human form to teach us his will and die on the cross to atone for human sin)
what is advent? what does an advent candle represent?
the 4 weeks counting down to the birth of jesus, advent candle= the flame symbolises jesus as the light of the world and is lit each day to count down
what is the nativity? what is its significance?
the nativity is the birth of jesus, the gospel of matthew says kings visited jesus (STR) significance=jesus is the messiah preticted in the old testiment
how is it celebrated? and what do these things symbolise?
giving presents= symbolises jesus a gift to the world, christingle= orange: the world, red ribbon: blood jesus spilled for us, candle: jesus is the light, 4 sticks with sweets: the four seasons
what is the significance of easter?
celebrates the resurrection of jesus, significance: miricle proves jesus was the son of god
lent: what is it? reason for the celebration?
month before easter giving up luxuries, celebrates whe njesus was in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights and is to remember we are all tempted to sin “ lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil now and forever” (STR)
paschal candle: what is it? what does each feature represent?
4 nails represents jesus on the cross and as they fall out when the candle burns it represents how the cross didnt kill jesus as he resurected, light of the candle represents life after death, atpha to omega: jesus was with us at the beginning and will also be at the end (day of judgement)
what does the easter egg represent?
new life and the rock removed from the tomb which jesus left behind
