Q

Why is there evil and suffering?

A
  • God has given each person free will and people must make their own choices. Some of the choices people make cause evil events and suffering.
  • There is a force for evil in the world, sometime characterised as the devil/Satan. Traditionally, the devil was believed to be a fallen angel, thrown out of heaven for disobeying God.
  • God shares in out suffering
  • Suffering is a test
  • Suffering is a result of sin
  • How we deal with suffering gives us the opportunity to become better people - it is soul shaping
17
Q

God the Father

A

Jesus taught his followers to refer to Gad as the Father. This refers to the all-powerful, all knowing part of God, who created this world. Christians also believe that it shows the caring, personal relationship between humans and God, like that between a child and their father.

18
Q

Jesus Chris

A

Christians believe Jesus is the son of God. For Christians, he is God in human form. This belief is known as the incarnation. Christians believe that through becoming human as Jesus, God revealed something of himself to the world.

19
Q

God the Holy Spirit

A

Christians belive that after his resurrection, Jesus rose up to heaven. They believe that God then sent the Holy Spirit into the world. Christians believe that it guides them to live life in the best way possible. It is able to give comfort, courage and guidance to all.

Q

The Apostles Creed

A

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.

From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.
