A

A

Define

Exclusive, Expressed, Implied, Concurrent powers

A

Delegated powers – the gov has only those powers delegated (granted) to it in the Constitution
•Expressed – powers spelled out in the Constitution
•Implied powers – not expressly stated in the constitution, but are reasonably suggested. (article 1 Sec. 8 clause 18)
•“Necessary and proper power”
•Inherent powers – these powers belong to the national gov. because they’re the national gov. of a sovereign state.
•Regulate immigration and acquire territory

What are exclusive and concurrent powers?

A

Exclusive powers can be exercised by the national gov. not by the state under any circumstances
•Power to regulate interstate commerce
•Concurrent powers are powers that both the National gov and the states possess and exercise.
•Power to collect taxes, define crimes and punishments, and to take private property for public use
•Concurrent powers are what make it possible for a federal system of gov to function.
