Chp 3 Basic Physica Flashcards
What is matter
Anything that takes up space and has weight
What is an atom
The smallest particle of a chemical element that can exist, either alone or in combination with other atoms
What is a proton
They are positive charges of electricity
What is a molecule
The smallest particle of a substance that retains the characteristics of the substance
What is a compound
A combination of elements that contains a specific number of atoms of each element
How can compounds exsist
A solid liquid or gas
What is gas
The physical combination of matter in which a material takes the shape of its container and expands to fill the entire container
What is weight
A measure of the force of gravity acting on a body
What is the acceleration rate by gravity
32.2 ft per second
What is density
A measure of the amount of matter in a certain volume of matter
What is specific gravity
The ratio of of the density of a material to the density of pure water
What are the 4 factors that act on an aircraft
Lift
Drag
Gravity
Thrust
What are the types of mechanical advantages
Lever
First class lever
Second class lever
Third class lever
Inclined plane
Gears
What is motion
Action in which objects change their position
What is speed
Rate of motion
How do you calculate an incline plane
F=w x h/ d
How do you calculate a third class lever
F= w x wa/ fa
What is Newton’s first law
When an object is at rest it will try and remain at rest
What is Newton’s second law
The amount of acceleration depends upon the mass of the object and the amount of forces used
Newton’s third law
For every action their is a reaction
How do you find vectors
R=[a2+b2]
How do you calculate sin
Opposite/ hypotenuse
How do you calculate cosine
Side adjacent/ hypotenuse
How do you calculate tan
Tan= opposite/ adjacent
