- self-efficacy = ones judgement of their capabilities to organize and execute courses of action required to attain designated types of performances
- personal performance accomplishments- perceived gifts, talents, abilities
- vicarious learning = watching others
- social persuasion = encouragement or discouragement
- physiological states and reactions = positive and negative
cogntive information processing approach
rooted in a three factor approach:
- self understanding
- occupational knowledge
- brining self understanding and occupational knowledge together to make a choice
CIPA: 4 assumptions
- career decision making involves the interaction between thoughts and affective process
- capacity for career problem solving depends on the availability of the cognitive operations and knowledge
- career development is ongoing and knowledge structures continually evolve
- enhancing information skills is the goal of career counseling
CASVE Cycle
Communication= internal and external
Analysis= is more info needed(if yes what or how)
Synthesis= elaboration and crystallization
Valuing= examining and prioritizing
Execution= converting the optimal alternative into action
applying CIPA
1) interview, build rapport, gain understanding
2) conduct assessments, challenge, and question
3) dig deeper, identify complications or concerns
4) collaborate and set goals
5) develop individual learning plan
6) take action
Career construction theory
- differential= what people prefer to do in their work
- developmental= how does one cope with career development tasks and transitions
- dynamic= how people use life themes to develop meaning in their career behavior as they fit work into their lives
- impose meaning
- replace assessment scores with personals stories
