Is a dominant 7 chord Major or Minor?

Because they are built off the Major scale using the dominant as the root, subtonic as the 3rd, supertonic as the 5th and the subdominant as the 7th.

Why is the Dominant 7 chord so dissonant?
The relationship between the subtonic and the subdominant of the scale is a diminished 5th (tritone) i.e. between the 4th and 7th of the chord.
How much smaller is diminished interval than a perfect interval or minor interval?
A semitone
