What is Rba? And when was it established
Window replacement division of Anderson. 1995 95.
Why was RBA created?
To solve the issue of installing windows in existing window openings. Custom-made to fit.
What 5 things does RBA offer?
Reliable solutions, custom-made windows, energy efficiency, low maintenance, certified installation
What awards has Anderson received?
Number one in customer satisfaction for window and patio doors four years in a row. Energy star partner.
When was fibrex made and what is it made of?
Developed in 1970s. 60% polymer/40% wood.
What are the 4 fibrex testing sites?
Phoenix, Arizona
Cottage Grove, Minnesota
Homestead, Florida
Medina, Ohio
What is the circle of trust?
RBA sells the product, manufactures it, installs, warranty, and service it. One step accountability.
What are the five basic materials used to make windows?
Wood
Aluminum
Vinyl
Aluminum clad
Fiberglass
Advantages/disadvantage to wood windows
Good insulator, architectural details
Disadvantage:
Water infiltration, rotting, warping/Bowing, maintenance, high cost
What are the advantages/disadvantage of aluminum?
Strength, durable, inexpensive, readily available
Disadvantage. Poor energy, conductive, corrosion, and pits condensation. Difficult to open/close.
Won’t pass code
When did Anderson reject aluminum?
1959
What are the advantages/disadvantage for aluminum clad?
Slows decay of wood, reduce maintenance, offer beauty. Disadvantage-aluminum and wood, expand and contract at different rates and can separate. When it rains, you get condensation, water and moisture are trapped. Wood can rot. Interior black mold, possible seal failure. Damage cannot be reversed.
Advantage/disadvantage to fiberglass
Advantage-good insulator, doesn’t rot, bugs. Don’t eat it, durable. Disadvantage mechanically, fastened with staples and screws, moisture enters, have to use agents and glues, which can off gas.
What do you have to do to fiberglass to protect it from the sun?
Boats and Corvettes made from fiberglass. Have to be waxed and polished or they will fade, crack, and deteriorate.
When did Andersen invent vinyl?
1959
Advantage/disadvantage to vinyl
Good insulator, won’t rot, inexpensive, low maintenance, insect won’t eat it, good for interior applications does not do well when exposed to solar energy.
Disadvantage to vinyl
Doesn’t do well in hot climate, wharp/fades, leak against windows in the industry
Mechanically fastened corners loosen, which cause seal failure
What happens to glazing beads in vinyl
Glazing beads, which help hold the glass in in the heat becomes brittle, fragile, cracks, bends, and brakes, exposed glass pack, poor air seal
What does sigma mean?
Seal insulating, glass manufacturing association
What did the 25 year study determine the correlation of seal failures?
Found that the industry will have 17.73 failures after 20 years and 100% in 40 years. RBA will have .3 failures after 20 years and .74 after 50 years.
What percentage of heating and cooling make up your energy consumption?
54%.
