CHOLINERGIC AGONISTS Flashcards
Pilocarpine— uses
Xerostomia
sjorgens syndrome(Dry mouth and lack of tears)
glaucoma(open angel and closed angle)
reverse the effect of atropine
Side effects of Pilocarpine
brow ache, blurred vision, night blindness
Bethanechol— uses
stimulation of atomic bladder in post partum and post op non obstructive urinary retention
megacolon
neurogenic atony
ADR of bethanechol
Bronchospasm
dec BP
diarrhea
Sweating
Carbachol— Uses
glaucoma treatment bcz it reduces IOP. rarely used due to non selectivity.
adverse effects– carbachol
no adrs at doses used opthalmologically
physostigmine– uses
inc intestinal motility
inc bladder motility
treatment of overdose of drugs having anticholinergic action
physostigmine adrs
Bradycardia
Dec Cardiac Output
Convulsions– Crosses CNS
Also action NMJ— skeletal paralysis
Neostigmine– USES
manage symptoms of myasthenia gravis
antidote for neuromuscular agents–(not for antimuscurinic agents)
adrs— neostigmine
same as physostigmine—(not convulsions bcz it does not enter cns as it is more polar)
in which coditions is neostigmine contra indicated?
in case of intestinal or urinary bladder obstruction
uses of pyridostigmine and ambenonium
treatment of myasthenia gravis
side effect of pyridostigmine and ambenonium
similar to neostigmine
donepizil, tacrine, rivastigmine, galantmine– uses
treatment of alzehimers
donepizil, tacrine, rivastigmine, galantmine– s-e
gi distress
(Tacrine is hepatotoxic)
