The most common symptoms of wounds
pain, swelling and bleeding
Wound that dont need medical attention
cuts, scrapes, bruises and scratche
Signs of an infected wound
soreness, redness, oozing and pus in the wound
Other wounds that often require medical care are those that
-Are a result of significant force or trauma
-Bleed persistently despite pressure and elevation
-Require stitches to close
-Are caused by an animal bite
-Cannot be easily cleaned
are cuts or incisions in the skin by a scalpel or drain placed during surgery
Surgical wounds
4 Categories of Surgical wounds
Class I,II,III,IV
Signs of infection after surgery
- increased pain and redness around the wound
- delayed healing
- weeping wound or the presence of pus or a foul smell
are those that fail to progress in a timely manner, usually within a timeframe of four weeks to three months.
Chronic, non-healing wounds
factors that contribute to chronic, non-healing wounds
including systemic illnesses, age and repeated trauma
Signs of chronic, non-healing wounds
pus, redness or warmth around the wound, a bad odor, increasing pain, darkening skin at the edges and fever
