Chiro Theories Quiz Midterm 2 Flashcards
Which health care professions use the high velocity low amp thrust for treating musculoskeletal problems
manual therapy in the feilds of :
- chiropractics
- medicine
- physical therapy
What is the difference btw a long or short lever and a general or specifc contact
Localization: Use of short levers and specific contacts (ex. SP and TP) will localize the force produced by the adjustive thrust to a single jt or jt complex, whereas long levers and general contacts allow the force produced by the adjustive thrust to spread over a larger area affecting multiple jts
Define adjustive force
Adjustive force can be expressed in terms of the impact kinetic energy (mass and velocity) of the clinician and the combo mechancial resistance
What is cavitation and what is its signifigance
The pressure inside the liquid drops below the vapor pressure, bubble formation and collapse occurs, and a cracking sound is heard wen the joint is taken beyond the elastic barrier, creating a sudden yeildng of the joint as it enters the paraphysiological space
Signigicance: it causes an increase in PROM, a temp increase in joint space, a approx. 20 min refactory period during which no further joint cracking can be produced, increase in joint separation, and a placebo effect
How does an assisted prestress differ from a resisted prestress in the delivery of an HVLA thrust
Assisted prestress: segmental contacts on the superior vert. of the dysfunctional motion seg.
The applied prestress is in the direction of the thrust.
The adjustive vectors are directed to produce movement of the superior vertebra relative to the inf. vert in the direction of jt restriction. An assisted mechanism affects the joint below the segmental contact.
Resisted prestress:
seg. contact on the inf. vertb. of the dysfunctional motion seg.
The applied prestress is in the direction opp. of the thrust.
The adjustive vector are directed to produce movement of the inferior vertebra relative to the superior vertebra of the dysfunctional joint.
A resisted mechanism affects the jt above the seg contact
2 ways that a subluxation might be documented?
- by x ray
2. physical exam using the PART formula
When a patient is noncompliant with recommendations about treatment, what is reasonable course of action for the provider to take
Make notions in the records of the patients noncompliance.
Warns patient of potential effects of noncompliance
Discharge the patient if it is a health risk
General rule about patient confidentiality
- all info gathered by the health practitioner be kept confidential unless its release is authorized by the patient
- the patient’s legal gaurdian
- required by law
How long should a provider retain patient files
- as long as state stutes of limitation require
2. or longer based on practicality, economics, and available space
Recommended method of making corrections or additions to a patients records?
- in a manner that does not deleteor obscure previously recorded information
- do not white out or cross out, only cross through
- any added information should be dated and signed by the person making the notion
