What does Jing translate to?
Essence
What is pre-heaven essence?
A blending of the sexual energies of man and woman at conception. This Essence nourishes the foetus. It determines our basic constitutional make-up, strength and vitality. It is what makes each individual unique.
What is post- heaven essence?
This is the Essence that is refined and extracted from food and fluids by the Stomach and Spleen after birth.
What is Kidney essence?
Kidney Essence derives from both the Pre-Heaven and Post-Heaven Essence. It is therefore a hereditary energy (Pre-Heaven Essence) which can also be replenished by food and fluids (Post-Heaven Essence).
What are the functions of Jing?
• Controls birth, growth, reproduction and development.
• Forms the basis of Kidney Qi.
• Produces Marrow.
• Forms the basis of our constitution.
Where is Jing stored?
In the kidneys and the 8 extra meridians
What are the signs of Jing deficiency in children?
poor development and dullness, poor bone development, late onset of menstruation.
What are signs of Jing deficiency in adults?
miscarriages, loose teeth, premature grey hair, baldness, osteoporosis, chronic poor health
Basis of Kidney Qi: poor sexual function, impotence, weakness of knees, nocturnal emissions.
Produces Marrow: poor concentration, poor memory, dizziness, tinnitus, feeling of emptiness of the head.
Basis of constitution: chronic poor health, constant colds, always ill, low energy and vitality.

• It is the motive force.
• It is the basis of Kidney Qi.
• It facilitates the transformation of Qi.
• It facilitates the transformation of Blood.
• It links directly with the Source points.
