Effects of Opium on China
Many people become addicted and weakened by it like the army, scientists, etc. Which caused other countries to take advantage of China and also lead it into economic issues.
When China banned opium what did the British Do?
Sell it illegally and smuggle it into China
Results of China & Britain going into war (British Side)
Six million dollars for value of opium and people’s lives.
3 million dollars as debt because of british merchants
12 million dollars for expenses and more parts of payment because of the high authorities of the Chinese.
A whole amount of 21 million dollars had to be paid to the British before December 31, 1845.
4 more ports were open for trading and one in Hong Kong was managed by Queen Elizabeth II.
All british prisoners were released from China
Overall Results
Both countries were at peace and could trade fairly at any time and for anything
Trades between China and Britain now had fair tariffs. The prices for items were more fair to the British & the Chinese.
