Giving the child too much attention may spoil them
Giving child too much attention may not give parents their own time and purpose in life

Pugh and Postman

Pugh- Children are huge target of marketing ie adverts for toys

Postman - There used to be a “informational hierarchy” and now that’s declining due to TV exposing children to information once only adults could access, removing their innocence

Not all children are growing up quickly compared to other countries
There is very little evidence to suggest that TV is influencing children

What 2 factors do we talk about in the Postmodern view?
Risk consciousness
Impact of media on parental fears

Parents are reluctant to send their children to play outside or walk to school alone. They give them phones to keep them safe
Parents are more aware about risks and threats to their children

stranger danger and catfishing
Evaluate the Postmodern view
- Not all threats are exaggerated by parents such as cyberbullying and online grooming which pose real danger
Not all children are overprotected in fact they can be abused within the home
