In the middle ages, the idea of childhood did not exist. Children had the same responsibilities as an adult, considered economic assets. As modern notion of childhood began to emerge, became a distinction between children and adult in terms of clothing, rights and responsibilities.
What did Postman say?
In modern society, childhood is ‘disappearing’ meaning that children and adults have some of the same rights, children’s unsupervised traditional games are disappearing. Printed word kept a distinction between adults and kids matters as they didn’t understand, however the TV blurs distinction and has easy access.

In the middle ages, the high death rate of children encouraged indifference and neglect, parents referred to their children as “it” or named them after a recently dead sibling
