What happens in the illocutionary stage?
Intentional communication
Eye contact alternating gaze between listener and object

What happens in the locutionary stage?
Solicits others attention vocally
Requests objects w/ pointing, vocalizing, and word approximations
Comments on objects and actions by directing listeners attention
answers simple wh qs with a vocal response
acknoleges speech of others by giving eye contact, vocally responding, or repeating a word said
What skills would you target for a 4-year old client who presents in the illocutionary stage of development?
I would target word approximations during requests since the child is most likely requesting but does not yet vocalize consistently. I would also target yes/no questions so that responses can be nonverbal but verbal responses can still be modeled.
What is phonological awareness?
The ability to reflect on and manipulate the structure of an utterance as distant from its meaning
How is PA related to literact development?
Pa is a precursor to reading and word recognition.
What are some preschool activities that suppost PA and preliteracy skills?
Sound hunt “find something that starts with /k/”
Letter sound match - match letter cards to pictures
Sort based on sound placement
What are some school age activities that support PA and literacy skills?
count sounds or syllables w/ objects
read a rhyme book and have them chime in w/ the rhyme
find the word that doesnt belong
beginning, middle, end of word identification
