Whooping Cough
Until at least 2 days after commencing Antibiotics
or
21 days from the onset of symptoms if no antibiotics
Bordetella pertussis
- Gram Negative
- Vaccinated at 2,3,4 months and 3 - 5 Years
Antibiotic: Macrolide
- e.g. Clarithromycin, Azithromycin, Erythromycin
- SE: GI Upset, QT Prolongation, Cholestatic Hepatitis, interaction with Statins (can cause myopathy through inhibition of CYP450)
Conjunctivitis
No Exclusion Required
Fifth Disease (Erythema infectiosum)
No Exclusion Required
The child is no longer infectious once the rash appears
Caused by the Parvovirus B19
Roseola
No Exclusion Required
Infectious Mononucleosis
No Exclusion Required
Head Lice
No Exclusion Required
Hand, Foot & Mouth
No Exclusion Required
Scarlet Fever
24 hours after commencing antibiotics
Management:
- Oral Penicillin V for 10 days
Measles
4 days from onset of rash
Rubella
4 days from onset of rash
Chickenpox
All lesions crusted over
Generally infectious from:
2 days before and 5 days after the onset of the rash
However all lesions should be crusted over before retuning to school
Mumps
5 days from onset of swollen glands
Diarrhoea & Vomiting
Until symptoms have settled for 48 hours
Impetigo
Until lesions are crusted and healed
or
48 hours after commencing antibiotic treatment
Treatment (Limited disease):
- Hydrogen Peroxide 1% Cream
- Topical Fusidic Acid
Treatment (Extensive Disease):
- Oral Flucloxacillin
- Erythromycin if penicillin- allergic
Scabies
Until treated
Treat with Permethrin 5%
