Chia et al, Localization of the first mandibular molar roots in relationship to the MC in small breed dogs Flashcards
Frontier 2021
Describe where the MC is located
MC starts at the mandibular foramen located ventral region of temporalis muscle insertion on the medial aspect of the ramus of the mandible
Explain the anatomy of inferior neurovascular bundle in MC
inferior neurovascular bundle runs through the MC from the mandibular foramen to the distal, middle, rostral mental foramina on the buccal side of the mandible at the level of 2nd PM and canine teeth
How many % of mandibular M1 roost were located lingually in this study?
82.7%
Are oral radiographic images sufficient to locate roots and their position in relation to MC ?
NO
CT scans
CBCT
HDCT
are more sensitive
are M1 roots symmetrical located on both mandible?
95% yes
What is a straddle tooth ?
tooth that is positioned in an unusual or abnormal location, typically straddling the midline of the jaw, where the two halves of the jaw
What was the % of 100 % superimposition of MC by M1 roots
56.3%
as roots of small breed dog occupies the majority of the mandible
A higher ventral extension of M1 roots into mandibular body - what clinical consequences can this have?
increase risk of pathological fracture of the mandible
What is the conclusion in this study ?
Most roots of M1 of dogs <15 kg were located at the MC lingual side 82.7% with an overall superimposition median with MC of 100% and 90% for the mesial and distal roots
Straddle tooth roots were not common in this presentation in dogs
how many roots of M1 were located in the buccal side ?
- 14.3% of roots are located at the buccal aspect
how many roots were located dorsal to MC ?
- 3 % of roots are located dorsal to the MC
How many roots were superimposed to MC either lingual or buccal ?
Out which how many roots were 100% superimposed?
- 97% of M1 roots superimposed with MC located either lingual or buccal
o 56.3% showed a 100% superimposition
