Chest X-Rays Flashcards
Common causes of lobar collapse
Lung cancer- most common cause of cancer in older adults
Asthma- due to mucous plugging
Foreign Body
Signs of Lobar collapse on a CXR
Tracheal deviation towards the side of the collapse
Mediastinal shift towards the side of the collapse
Elevation of the hemidiaphragm
Right sided hilar mass- due to collapse of right upper lobe and VICE VERSA
As a consequence the hyperexpanded right middle and lower lobes are hyperlucent (‘blacker’).
Chest X ray : white lung lesions causes
- Consolidation Pleural Effusion -Collapse -Pneumonectomy -Specific lesions- eg tumours -Fluid- pulmonary oedema
White out of a hemithorax with tracheal pulled toward white out: causes
Pneumonectomy
Complete lung collapse e.g. endobronchial intubation
Pulmonary hypoplasia
White out of hemithorax with trachea central causes
Consolidation
Pulmonary oedema (usually bilateral)
Mesothelioma
White out of the hemithorax- trachea pushed away from the white-out
Pleural effusion
Diaphragmatic hernia
Large thoracic mass
Pulmonary oedema signs on a chest x ray
Upper lobe deviation
Kerley p lines- both sides of pleura
Bat wing shadowing
Pleural effusion
