Chest & Abdomin Flashcards
Superficial Chest
-Pectoralis Major
-Pectoralis Minor
-Serratus Anterior
-Subclavicus
Upper thorasic (true ribs + sternum); arm movement, breathing, and scapula protection
Pectoralis Major
Clavicular Head (originates under clavicles) + Sternocostal head (originates from sternum and ribs)
Arm movement and breathing
Pectoralis Minor
Under major (triangular)
Scapula movement (anterior and inferior stabilization) and breathing
Serratus Anterior
Wraps from rib cage to scapula
Scapula movement (stabilization in rotation)
Subclavicus
Between clavicle and first rib
Shoulder movements (stabilizes clavicle)
Deep Chest
-Exernal/internal intercostals
-Transverse thoracis
thoracic (rib) cae movement
External intercostals
Overlapping, but in-between, ribs
Breathing (inhalation by raising)
Internal intercostals
In between ribs
Breathing (exhalation by lowering)
Innermost intercostals
Behind, but in between, ribs
Breathing (forced exhalation by lowering)
Transverse thoracic
Anterior to intercostals
Breathing (forced exhalation by lowering)
Abdomen
-Rectus Abdominis
-External Oblique
-Internal Oblique
-Transverse Abdominis
From lower thoracic to lower lumbar; Spinal flexion/rotation, Lateral flexion, abdominal compression
Rectus Abdominis
Superficial, vertical muscle of abdomen (lower ribs to pelvis)
Spine flexion/abdominal compression and ambulatory stabilization
External Oblique
Superficial, diagonal muscles of abdomen (lower ribs to pelvis)
trunk rotation, Lateral and trunk flexion, abominable compression
Internal Oblique
Below external, diagonal in the opposite direction
Transverse abdominis
Below all other muscles, horizontal (corset)
Intra-abdominal pressure, compression, and stability
