This lab indicates hydration status and renal function

Decreased levels indicate starvation and low protein
Elevated levels indicate dehydration and high protein intake

59
Q

What is the normal lab level for creatinine?

A

Creatinine is a good indicator of kidney function
0.8-1.2mg/dL in males
0.6- 1.0 mg/dL in females
Concern if greater than 2 - 2.5
Increased levels indicate renal failure and muscle atrophy

60
Q

What is the normal lab level for magnesium?

A

1.5-2.4 mEq/L

Elevated levels May indicate renal failure or excess intake of antacids

Decreased levels May indicate malabsorption, diarrhea, refeeding syndrome

A

8.5-10.2 mg/dL

Elevated levels May indicate metastatic cancer

37 to 47% for females

Elevated levels indicate dehydration
Decreased levels indicate anemia blood loss and cancer

Hematocrit levels should be a packed proximately 3 times greater than hemoglobin levels

66
Q

What are the appropriate lab values for white blood cells?

A

4.1 to 10.9

Below normal range could be deficiency of vitamin B12 or iron

Above normal range could be dehydration
