Chemistry revision Flashcards
What is an atom?
It is the smallest unit into which matter can be divided without the release of electrically charged particles.
What is Ion?
An ion is an atom or group of atoms that has an electric charge. Ions with a positive charge are called cations.
what is electron?
An electron is a negatively charged subatomic particle that can be either bound to an atom or free (not bound)
what is a transfer?
In chemical reactions, energy is not created or destroyed. Energy is conserved (saved) and transferred between objects.
What is a Metal ion?
Metal ions are positively charged particles formed when a metal atom loses one or more electrons.
what is an Non- metal ion?
metal atoms lose electrons to form positive ions ( cations. Most cations are formed from metals.) non-metal atoms gain electrons to form negative ions (
