Chemistry Revision Flashcards
What is a rate of reaction?
The speed at which a reaction takes place.
How can you measure the rate of a reaction?
You can measure how quickly reactants are used up and measure how quickly the products are formed.
Some factors that can effect a rate of reaction.
Temperature, use of catalyst, particle size, concentration, surface area.
How do temperature, concentration, surface area and catalysts affect the rate of reaction?
Higher temperature makes particles move faster and has more succesful collisions. At a higher concentration, there are more particles reacting and increases chances of reacting particles. A larger surface area provides more area for particles to collide. By lowering the activation energy, it increases the chance of succesful collisions.
