Q
PRACTICAL 1: MAKING SOLUBLE SALTS
- How can you make a soluble salt using an acid?
A
- 1) Start with a fixed volume of dilute sulfuric acid in a
beaker and gently heat it
2) Add small amounts of copper oxide and stir until
you can see the unreacted copper oxide in the
beaker
3) Filter away the unreacted copper oxide
4) Take the copper sulphate solution and place it in
an evaporating basin and heat of a beaker of
boiling water
5) Leave for 24 hours in a cool place for crystals to
form

Q
PRACTICAL 2: TITRATIONS
- How can we carry out a titration?
A
- 1) Use a pipette to add 25cm^3 of NAOH to a conical
flask
2) Add 5 drops of phenolphthalein to the conical
flask
3) Place it on a white tile
4) Fill a burette with sulfuric acid
5) Add acid to the alkali until it is neutral. Slow to a
drop at a time when colour change is near. Make
sure to mix it.
6) The alkali has been neutralised when the indicator
turns from pink to clear
7) Read the volume of acid added from the burette
