Precipitation
a chemical reaction occurring in an aqueous solution where two ionic bonds combine, resulting in the formation of an insoluble salt. These insoluble salts formed in precipitation reactions are called precipitates.
(a reaction between two salts.)
solute
A substance that is dissolved in a solution
solvent
A solvent is a chemical substance that dissolves another chemical substance to form a solution of a homogeneous mixture.
solution
a homogenous mixture which mainly comprises two components namely solute and solvent.
Mixture
Mixtures are substances formed by physically mixing two or more substances together
Compounds
Compounds are substances formed by the chemical combination of two or more elements.
Acids
what is an acid: A substance that contains or dissolves in water to produce hydrogen ions.
Definition of Acid: A proton donor (it donates hydrogen.)
Saturated solution
A saturated solution is a solution that cannot dissolve anymore solutes at a given temperature.
soluble base
Aka an alkali
proton acceptor
base
a reaction which gives salt and water as the only products
neutralization
(q) A reaction which an insoluble salt is prepared from solutions of two soluble salts
precipitation reaction
A mixture of indicators that has different colors in solutions of different pH
universal indicator
Universal indicator
A universal indicator is a mixture of different types of indicators that exhibits different coloration at different levels. It is used to detect the acidic or basic nature of a substance or a solution. It can be in the form of a paper strip or a solution.
What are mineral acids
A mineral acid or inorganic acid is any acid derived from an inorganic compound that dissociates to produce hydrogen ions (H+) in water. Mineral acids are highly soluble in water but tend to be insoluble in organic solvents. The inorganic acids are corrosive.
Types of mineral acids: H2SO4 (SULFURIC ACID) HCL (HYDROCHLORIC ACID), HNO3 (NITRIC ACID)
