Chemistry In Our Lives Flashcards
Chemical
Is a substance that always has the same composition and properties wherever it is found.
Chemistry
Is the study of the composition (what is it made of?), structure (how is it put together?), properties (what characteristics does it have?), and reactions (how does it behave with other substances?), of matter.
(physical and chemical changes)
Matter
Is another word for all the substances that make up our world.
(Weight, occupy space? Everything you see chemistry, composition, and structure)
How many fields of chemistry are there?
Five;
general, organic, biological, geochemistry, and physical chemistry.
What is the Scientific Method?
A set of general principles that help describe how a scientist thinks.
(Theory seems in tune with hypothesis by having to have multiple experiments at different places and environments.)
What step is the Observation in the scientific method, and what does it mean?
The first step in the scientific method and it means, facts obtained by observing and measuring events in nature.
What step is the Hypothesis in the scientific method, and what does it mean?
The second step in the scientific method and it means, a statement that explains the observation.
What step is the Experiment in the scientific method, and what does it mean?
The third step in the scientific method and it means, procedures that test the hypothesis.
What step is the Theory in the scientific method, and what does it mean?
The fourth and last step in the scientific method and it means, a model that describes how observations occur using experimental results.
When two positive numbers or two negative numbers are multiplied, the answer is what?
When two positive numbers or two negative numbers are multiplied, the answer is positive.
2 x 3 = 6
-2 x -3 = 6
When a positive number and a negative number are multiplied, the answer is what?
When a positive number and a negative number are multiplied, the answer is negative.
2 x (-3) = (-6) (-2) x 3 = (-6)
